Looking to import or export to expand your business?
IEC stands for Import Export Code and it is required by businesses who indulge in import and exports in India. All kinds of business related to import exports need IEC code. However, if import/export of goods is for personal use, which is not connected with trade, manufacture or agriculture and when import/export is done by government ministries and departments, and certain notified charitable organizations then it does not require an import/export code.
IE code can be obtained by anyone who is looking for selling
or buying goods to foreign countries. One can register for IE code even without
incorporating a legal entity i.e. in individual capacity.
IE code registration is a one-time registration and requires
no filing of any returns with the government. So if you are even looking to
export or import in future, it’s better to get it registered beforehand.
